Increasing Your Home’s Appeal

Here are some simple and significant ways to maximize your home’s appeal.



Exterior


General:
  • Thoroughly sweep all exterior sides of the home to clean off any dirt, cobwebs or wasp nests
  • Power wash the home if necessary

Yard:

  • Keep lawn mowed, weed-eated, and well edged
  • Trim trees and shrubs
  • Clean out flower beds and invest in a few flats of colorful flowers

Front Entry Porch

  • Be sure front door area is clean and free of dirt, dust and cobwebs
  • Repaint door and trim if needed
  • Add new thick “Welcome” mat and keep it clean

Garage

  • Clean and re-organize
  • Sweep, clean and remove all cobwebs and any oil or grease from the floor



Interior


General
  • If your carpet has not been cleaned recently, or needs to be cleaned, now is the time to do it
  • Bare floors should be waxed or polished
  • Replace A/C filters

Lighting Suggestions
  • Upgrade wattage in all light fixtures to the highest level that safety will allow
  • Clean all light fixtures

  • Keep all flat surfaces cleared off and clean
  • Go over your kitchen as if you were a health inspector, cleaning all appliances and hard to reach areas

Pantry and Closets
  • Thin out clutter as much as possible, leaving a small amount of appropriate, ordered items to show use of the space

Bedrooms and Living Areas
  • Make sure that there is not too much furniture in any one room
  • Store personal photos so that the buyer may more easily visualize the home as their own
