Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

On most days, the parking lot of Guilford Courthouse Military Park is bustling.  Although some visitiors may come for the history of the area, most local residents flock to the park for the paved, two-mile walking loop.  You will find a large variety of people on the  road...grey-haired men in baseball caps, young mothers pushing strollers, runners with IPods.  It is also a popular spot for bicyclist and conveniently links to the Greensboro Trail system. 

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is more commonly known as Battleground Park.  In addition to the parks popularity with area residents seeking exercise, it is a wonderful place to visit.  The visitors center is FREE and has two great movies that explain the historic significance of the park.  There is also a small museum in the visitors center with artifacts that have been found on site.  Markers along the paved loop show where various battles took place. 

In March 2011, the park opened the Nathanael Greene Revolutionary War Library directly across from the Visitors Center on New Garden Road.  It is one of only two libraries in the Southeast exclusively specializing in information about the southern campaign of the Revolutionary War.  It is open to the public and is an excellent resource for local students, scholars and researchers. 

The park is located off of Old Battleground Road.  It is just off Battleground Road, a main thoroughfare in Greensboro.  If you are traveling north on Battleground, make a right on Old Battleground just after Lowes Home Improvement and just before the Kohls. 

You can also reach the park via a short cut-through path from Country Park.  If you want to get a little more exercise, you can walk the paved loop at Country Park, which is about 1.5 miles long.  You can enter through the Country Park entrance off of Pisgah Church Road or several entrances off of Lawndale Road.
