Greensboro Montessori School

Greensboro Montessori School is the oldest and largest Montessori school in Greensboro.  It is located on a nine acre campus on Horsepen Creek Road in Northwest Greensboro.  The students at GMS range in age from infants to eighth grade.  It was established in 1974 and started with only twelve students.  It has now grown to over 350 students.  

The school has several innovative programs that set it apart.  The Montessori philosophy is based on the research of Dr. Maria Montessori, a child development expert, over 100 years ago.  Several times throughout the year, the students visit a satellite location in Oak Ridge at which students learn lessons from nature such as archeology, biology and sciences.   There is also organic gardens surrounding the school, which are maintained by the students.  As they are gardening, they are learning about soil conservation, plant cycles and even Spanish!  And every December, the middle school students learn about business with a hands-on experience called Market Place.  They make a business plan, make products, market and sell them to students and staff and calculate their profits and losses. 

Julie Ann of Team Leung has sent both of her children to GMS.  She can attest to the wonderful education they have received there.  Her son has done very well at a local public high school since graduating from eighth grade.  Her daughter is currently an eighth grader there.
