Blandwood Mansion

Blandwood Mansion

Blandwood MansionBlandwood Mansion, Greensboro, NC is one of Greensboro's many historical sites.  Blandwood Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1795, which is before Greensboro was even founded.

Blandwood Mansion was named after Charles Bland, its first owner and a farmer.  Its third owner was John Motley Morehead, North Carolina's govenor from 1841-1845.  In addition to its historic significance, Blandwood is noteworthy because of its unique architecture.  The grounds also are rich with history, which is why you will often see local archeology college students digging in grids in the backyard.  They are still trying to uncover all of the mysteries hidden at Blandwood Mansion.

Look for special events throughout the year.  One of our favorites is the ghost stories told by professional story teller, Cynthia Moore Brown.  She makes a limited number of appearances around Halloween of every year.  Every December, Blandwood Mansion is decorated for Christmas in a historically accurate way, which is much more subdued than decorating by today's standards!  In the summer, watch for notices about concerts on the lawn.

Consider Blandwood Mansion for your next big event.  The Carriage House at Blandwood Mansion is available for rent for weddings and parties.  The price varies so check out their website for more information.

Very knowledgable tour guides provide tours of the mansion and surrounding buildings throughout the day.  The tours last approximately 45 minutes.  Tours are included in the price of the admission, which is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, AAA members and groups and $5 for children under 12.  The hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 11:00-4:00 and Sunday from 2:00-5:00.  Blandwood Mansion is closed on Mondays.
